If you live in an information silo…
A follower of Fox News are you? If it’s Fox News only that you digest, you likely think that the nation is burning down and enraged rioters are smashing the heads of police.
As in today’s Fox News online headlines:
“Portland rioters arrested after ICE facility attack leaves officers injured”
“Violent Portland mob injures federal officers in brazen ICE facility attack”
“Mobs attack officers in LA as Democrats fan flames against Trump administration”
If you actually think about it a bit you can tell those headlines have a very specific emotional objective, and it is NOT to tell you the whole truth (other media companies do it, too). Try reading the entire accompanying articles, though, and see how many folks were involved and what the actual injuries and damages were. Do the details or images really match the headlines? How do those headlines compare to other news outlests? BBC and other overseas outlets?
If folks are violent, that is to be condemned, for sure (doubly so as it plays right into Trump’s hands). But how much actual violence, rioting, attacking, etc. was there throughout the country? How about visiting a variety of news sources to see what the general patten of citizen behavior was during these No Kings Day potests?
If you do that, you’ll quickly get a picture of a day in which hundreds of thousands (millions?) of folks took to the streets to PEACEFULLY protest Trump and his policies. Throughout the nation, there were very, very, very few violent incidents.
Barcelona No Kings Day
Here in Barcelona the 200-250 of us expats who turned out were mo’ definitely peaceful. The only law enforcement officer I saw was the lone, bored city policeman at the entrance to the Ajuntament (City Hall).
The signs were awesome, funny, ingenious, biting.
Comradery. Conversation. Speeches. Chants. Tired arms from holding up the signs.
Tourists wandering by, taking photos and videos.
No tear gas or rubber bullets. No looting.
Afterwards, we all retired to a local establishment for lunch.
Hopefully we can keep up the momentum through the midterms and beyond so so as to reclaim the good ole USA and resume our [interrupted] progress toward a nation that truly does live up to its founding ideals for ALL and not just the rich and powerful.
